Whether you rent at a marina (see listings and links) or bring your own boat and use one of the six public docking areas or a marina to launch, with so many miles of water, you can get totally away from the crowd and anchor in a quiet cove for a day of fishing, swimming or picnicking. Or make some new friends when you visit one of our marinas where boaters gather for everything from boating supplies to food and entertainment.

If you’re a novice or beginner, Smith Mountain Lake is a great place to take a course in boat safety or learn how to sail - SML Sailing School, - but you don’t have to be the captain to enjoy time on the water. Check out the SML Boating Association's activities and events. For a real treat, try the “Virginia Dare”, a luxurious side-wheeler offering tour cruises that highlight the sights around the lake including luncheon and dinner cruises with great entertainment.
