January
The Annual Chamber Awards Dinner:
January 17, 2008 - Waterfront Country Club. A gala event, delicious food, entertainment and special awards to Chamber businesses selected by their fellow membership for the past year's accomplishments.

Romance Valentines Weekends:
During the entire month, every weekend from Thursday to Sunday evening is special as many of the lake’s lodging, dining and shopping businesses celebrate the special romantic private atmosphere the lake provides to its visitors.

WALMART BASS FISHING LEAGUE TOURNEY:

The first major fishing event for the Shenandoah Division of the Bass Fishing League with great prizes, competition and the chance to earn points in the national contest.

BUSINESS EXPO

Sponsored by the Smith Mountain Lake Chamber of Commerce this annual event showcases member businesses, services and products.  Date: April 25, 2008

2008 marks the 21st annual clean-up held on Saturday, May 3rd. Just about the whole community gets involved in sprucing up the lake for the coming summer season. 12th ANNUAL CORPORATE CUP GOLF CLASSIC

The opening of the spring golfing season at the lake is a much-anticipated event by golfers from the surrounding communities. This year's event will be held at The Waterfront Country Club on Monday, May 12, 2008.

17TH ANNUAL ANTIQUE & CLASSIC BOAT SHOW
SML Chapter of ACBS
Saturday, August 9th 2008. ANNUAL "FOUR SEASONS" PHOTO CONTEST -

The 2007 contest begins on Aug. 15th and ends on Nov. 15th.  An annual event targeting amateur photographers in the Smith Mountain Lake area.  Photos from all 4-seasons at Smith Mountain Lake qualify for 16 cash prize awards.

20TH ANNUAL SML WINE FESTIVAL

SMITH MOUNTAIN LAKE FALL CHILI FESTIVAL

Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008.  11:00 AM - 5:00 PM a full day event featuring music, crafts and a spectacular Chili cook-off, with awards for Best Chili, People's Choice and Showmanship!  It'll be a hot time at Smith Mountain Lake with chili tasting, fun, entertainment and awarding of prizes all at Bridgewater Plaza just off Route 122, Moneta.  Children under 12 are free;  Free parking.

VA. DARE FLOTILLA FOR TOYS CHRISTMAS BOAT PARADE
December 13th 2008. An evening event, with a parade of boats 'decked out' for the holiday season with lights and displays.  The boats leave port from the Virginia Dare Marina at 7 PM, travel to Halesford Bridge at Bridgwewater Plaza, finally they circle past the SML State Park before returning to the marina. This event is a local toy drive with all gifts distributed by the Lake Area Christian Ministries.
